A 24-5 run to open the second half lifted the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 74-40 victory in Liberty League action at Alumni Gymnasium on Tuesday night. The Saints remain unbeaten in the league at 4-0, winning their ninth straight game to improve to 10-3 overall. The Golden Knights fall to 2-11 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Sophomore Allison Cady led the Saints with 16 points on 6-for-8 shooting, while adding three steals and three assists. Junior Kelly Legg had 13 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks, while first-year student Lauren Quattrocchi also added nine points, all on 3-point field goals.

St. Lawrence started off the game by making its first five field goal attempts, racing out to a solid lead in the early going. However, the Knights were able to chip away at the lead by dominating the boards (22-13). Clarkson gained numerous second chances, with 13 offensive rebounds, but still shot 25.8% percent from the floor to stay in the game. A key to the low shooting percentage was St. Lawrence's defense in the paint as the team totaled eight blocked shots in the first half, including six by Legg.

Thanks to some key plays down the stretch, St. Lawrence turned a six-point lead into a 12-point advantage at the break.

St. Lawrence opened the half with a 24-5 run, and limited the Knights' second-chance opportunities throughout the second half, holding Clarkson to just two offensive rebounds.

"We executed our defensive game plan really well today," said St. Lawrence head coach Dan Roiger. "In the second half, we fixed the rebounding problem we had in the first half. I thought that Cassie (St. Hilaire) did a great job defending (Ashley) Loggins in the second half."

The Saints will host William Smith and RIT this weekend in two Liberty League contests. Tip-off against the Herons on Friday is at 6:00pm.
