Caroline Dalton scored a team-high 18 points and helped spark a second half comeback as the St. Lawrence University Women's Basketball team scored 35 second-half points to post a 56-44 win over Drew University to win the championship of the Rose City Classic Tournament Saturday afternoon at Drew University in Madison, NJ.

Dalton was named the tournament MVP for St. Lawrence (2-0) as she finished with a double-double with 18 points and a team-best 10 rebounds.

Senior Lauren Quattrocchi, who handed out eight assists, was named to the All-Tournament team.

"Caroline (Dalton) has played well all fall," said Head Coach Dan Roiger. "She is really in great shape and it allows her to play hard on both ends of the floor. The more she shoots, the better we are."

Roiger was also happy with the play of his senior captain.

"Lauren played like a senior tonight," said Roiger. "She made two huge layups at the end of the third and another in the fourth. More importantly, she was able to penetrate past her defender and find teammates."

The Saints fell behind early, allowing 16 first-quarter points to Drew (1-1) before limiting the Rangers to nine points in the second quarter but still trailed 24-21 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter, St. Lawrence played its best defense and outscored the Rangers 16-8 to take the lead and then extended to advantage with a 19-11 score in the fourth quarter. The Saints shot just 27 percent from the field in the first half but hit 43% of their shots in the final 20 minutes.

"It took us a while to get going today against a quality opponent," said Roiger. "We found something that worked in the second half and we had some big plays when we needed them. It came down to rebounding and turnovers. We only gave up four offensive rebounds in the second half and had only five turnovers and that helped us tremendously."

The Saints return to action Thursday with a midweek game at Keuka College with a 7 pm start.
