Alfred, NY – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team outscored host Alfred State by 19 points in the second half on its way to a 76-56 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Neither team led by more than five in what was a seesaw back-and-forth battle in the opening half. Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) hit a three-pointer with 47 seconds remaining in the half to give SUNY Canton a two point lead and Samuel Volmy split a pair of free throws with 28 seconds left as the Roos took a 34-33 lead into intermission.

Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) carried the Roos (15-3) in the opening half with 18 points and eight rebounds on 8-for-12 shooting. The rest of the team struggled, however, shooting just 4-for-21 from the field. Dior Dixon paced the Pioneers with 10 points, while Marquis Edwards added eight.

Edwards hit a three-pointer out of the halftime break to give the Pioneers a 36-34 lead but the Roos exploded on an 21-4 run over the next seven minutes to take control of the game leading 55-38 with 9:26 remaining after a Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) layup.

Alfred State (7-16) was unable to get closer than 11 points the remainder of the way. The Roos shot 47 percent from the field in the second half, compared to just a 27 percent mark for the hosts. SUNY Canto shared the ball in the second half registering 12 assists on 16 made field goals.

Fletcher led all players with 23 points and 14 rebounds on 10-for-16 shooting. Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) scored 12 of his 18 points after halftime to go with seven rebounds and three assists. Annorh added 15 points, four assists and three steals, while Kazre Cummings (Providence, RI) came off the bench to score all 10 of his points after intermission.

Edwards paced the Pioneers with 17 points, while Dixon added 14 in the scoring column. Alfred State turned the ball over 22 times which led to 23 SUNY Canton points. The Roos also had the upper hand in points in the paint, 44-20.

The men's basketball team has a quick turnaround as it hosts Vermont Tech on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Roos House.
