Hamburg, NY – Freshman Allison Wakefield made 16 saves but three second half goals gave host Hilbert College a 3-0 win against the SUNY Canton women's soccer team on Wednesday.
Wakefield made seven saves over the opening 45 minutes to keep the game scoreless at intermission. Kayla Phillips (Potsdam, NY) registered a shot on goal in the 17th minute but Hawk keeper Jenna Castricone was up to the task making the save.
Jennifer Colvin scored her fifth goal of the season off a corner from Jackie Morgan in the 56th minute to open the scoring. Four minutes later Brooklyn Gormel played a quick restart and found Shannon Rogers who beat the keeper for the third time on the season.
The Hawks (5-2) rounded out the scoring in the 72nd minute when Gina Mallone put home a rebound after Wakefield made an initial save on a shot from Emily Gawlak. Ryley Scott (Warrensburg, NY) registered the only Roo (1-6) shot on goal in the second half.
Wakefield made 16 saves for the Roos including nine in the second half, while Castricone turned aside two shots for Hilbert.
The women's soccer team returns to the pitch on Saturday when it visits Alfred State College at 1 p.m.
