Potsdam, NY - Following a slow start, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team got a spark its bench players as the Golden Knights' reserves scored half of the team's points in a 90-66 route of SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 5-2 on the season, the third time that Clarkson has gained at least five wins in its first seven games since the 1991-92 season. The Kangaroos fell to 0-6.

Clarkson had a sloppy beginning committing three turnovers and going just 1-for-4 from the floor in its first few possessions. SUNY Canton was out to an 11-4 lead after a pair of free throws from Karyss Terrance, but on the next possession for Clarkson, Cara Manfredi (Glastonbury, CT) buried a 3-pointer to jumpstart the Knight's offense. Just a few minutes later, freshman guard Devin Sorell (Hannibal, NY) scored a four-point play, burying her 3-pointer from the wing and then sinking a free throw to give Clarkson an 18-16 lead, an advantage that the Knights would never relinquish. Up 20-19 a few moments following the four-point play, Manfredi scored on another 3-pointer to start an 11-0 run over the course of just one minute, 34 seconds and the Knights would lead by double figures for the remainder of the contest. With a last second lay up, the Knights led by 20 points at the break (52-32).

SUNY Canton began the first half with a pair of points to cut the lead to 18, but Clarkson pushed the lead back to 20 points and would never see its margin fall below that mark for the remainder of the contest, with the advantage swelling to as many as 29 points (65-36).

Sorell led the Knights offensively, making her first four shots from the floor and finishing 6-for-8 overall, including 3-for-3 from beyond the 3-point arc, for 16 points. She also contributed a team-high four assists. Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) added 15 points and four steals, and Manfredi scored 13 points. Jovanna Snead (Poughkeepsie, NY) came off the bench to score nine points in 14 minutes and Stephanie Grobe (White River Junction, VT) also had nine points and three assists. Brooke Butkovsky (Monroe, CT) had seven points and six rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench as well.

For Canton, Brianna Sayer had a game-high 17 points and also made three steals, while Karyss Terrance always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to record a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor Saltus also reached double figures with 12 points.
