(Hooksett, N.H.)- Sophomore Trevor Wight (Clearwater, Fla.) scored twice leading the SUNY Canton men’s ice hockey team to a 3-1 win over Southern New Hampshire University Saturday afternoon.

The Roos (4-10) snapped a five-game slide with their fourth win over a Division II opponent this season, and they also ended a grueling stretch having played their 11th straight road game. The Roos return to their home ice next weekend with a two-game series with the University of Rhode Island Dec. 7 and 8.

SUNY Canton built a 2-0 lead after the first period on Saturday on goals from sophomore Austin Root (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Wight. The Penmen slashed the lead in half scoring the only goal in the second period and the score was 2-1 heading in the final stanza. Wight pushed the lead to a two-goal final margin scoring his fourth goal of the year with an empty net tally with 24 seconds left in regulation.

Freshman George Curry (Schaumburg, N.Y.) assisted on all three SUNY Canton goals and freshman Luis Puig (Chicago, Ill.) turned aside 27 shots to earn his second win this season.

Steven Berry scored for Southern New Hampshire and Dave Letarte made 23 saves.
