Strong first half leads SUNY Canton women’s lacrosse to fourth straight win

Buffalo, NY – The SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team jumped out to a ten goal lead on its way to winning its fourth straight game with a 17-10 victory at D'Youville College on Friday.

The Roos (8-5), led 11-1 with 6:15 to play in the opening half following Molly Denny's third goal of the game. D'Youville (4-6) responded with three straight scores to get within 11-4 at intermission.

SUNY Canton rebuilt a double-digit advantage with three straight tallies out of intermission before the Spartans ran off five consecutive goals to get within 14-9. In a game of runs Logan Bush found the back of the net three unanswered times to stave off any chance D'Youville had of a comeback bid.

Bush led the Roos with five goals and added four draw controls, while Molly Denny posted four goals, one assist and six ground balls. Allison Auger finished with two goals, two assists and a game-high eight ground balls. MaryClare Bowes and Katelynn Nutter both scored twice with Bowes adding an assist. Amanda Woods picked up a game-high seven draw controls and caused four turnovers, while Mia Jermano finished with three caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Nicole Piskorowski made seven saves in the win, while Megan Dulniak made 24 stops in the loss for D'Youville.

The women's lacrosse team is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Cazenovia College on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
