Marcy, NY – Josh Yelvington scored a game-high six goals including a pair of fourth quarter tallies as the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team earned a 15-11 road win at SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts knotted the game at 11 apiece with 17 seconds remaining in the third quarter but the Roos (2-4) outscored the Wildcats (1-4) 4-0 in the final period to earn the victory.
SUNY Poly held a slim 3-2 lead after the first quarter but the Roos bounced back with a 4-3 advantage over the second 15-minute period to tie the game at 6-6 heading into intermission.
Yelvington led all players with six goals, while Cam Carter also recorded a hat trick. Trenton Yule chipped in with two goals and one assist, while Jake Sutton, Brandon Rodee, Kyle Green and Jack Elberty all scored.
Rodee led all players with eight ground balls, while Trevor Hughes added six and went 18-for-28 in the faceoff circle. The Roos held the upper hand in ground balls (43-26) and faceoffs (18-11).
Kody Kocsis made 12 saves in his second straight win, while Andrew Barreca turned aside eight shots for SUNY Poly.
The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday when it visits Cazenovia College at 4 p.m.
