Utica, NY – Anna Maria College closed the game on a 17-6 run to earn a 62-56 win over the SUNY Canton men's basketball team on Saturday in the consolation game of the Utica College Basketball Classic.
Canton (2-10) led 20-14 midway through the opening half following a jumper from Ibu Smith. The Amcats (3-7) opened up a three point edge with 3:33 to play in the first half but the Roos closed the final 3:33 on a 10-3 run to take a 32-28 lead into intermission.
Jordan Stewart and Andrew Fitch posted seven points apiece in the opening half. Liam Pickett and Mike Rapoza paced Anna Maria with eight and seven points, respectively.
The Roos continued to hold a lead extending their advantage to five at 50-45 with 7:34 remaining following a Danny Santana layup. However, the Amcats closed the game on a 17-6 run over the final seven minutes to earn the six point victory.
Stewart paced the Roos with 15 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Adrian Williams and Fitch added 11 points apiece and combined for 13 rebounds. Santana also chipped in eight points.
Pickett led all players with 19 points, while Rapoza had a monster game with 11 points and 21 rebounds. Sidney Limage and Kenneth Graham chipped in 10 and nine points, respectively.
The men's basketball team is back in action next Saturday, January 6th when they host Cazenovia College at 1 p.m. in the Roos House.
