St. Lawrence University's women's outdoor track and field team needed a pile of points late in the meet if it was to win its eighth straight Liberty League track and field championship overall and its fourth straight outdoor title.

RIT took the team point lead about midway through the meet and was up by 16.5 points with 15 events scored. Three events later the Saints trailed by just a half point and when the Saints piled up 16 points in the triple jump behind another win by senior Divya Biswal, title number eight was pretty much assured.

The Saints had to finish the 4x400 relay to lock up the title, and did, finishing fourth to win the meet with 193 points with RIT second with 183.5, RPI third with 120.5, Vassar fourth with 70, Union fifth with 31 and Bard sixth with 16.

Biswal,(right) who won both the long and triple jumps and the 100 hurdles and led off the 4x100 relay team which set a meet record with a 49.26 clocking was 7957named the Outstanding Field Performer of the meet for the sixth consecutive time in Liberty League championship competition and finished her Liberty League career with 18 individual championships, five relay titles and league records in both the long and triple jumps indoors and outdoors plus the 60 hurdles indoors. She accounted for 32.5 points for the Saints in the meet.

Megan Kellogg was the other Saint award winner in the meet, named the Outstanding Rookie after winning the 1500 in 4:44.59 and finishing third in the 800 in 2:19.82, but it was a solid team effort across the board which brought the championship plaque back to Canton.

The Saints scored in every event and had eight individual champions in addition to the 4x100 win. Junior Marisa Turner, who set the league record with a win at 1.64 in the high jump accounted for 34.5 points, while classmate Allison Scarf didn't win an event, but scored in five and contributed 24 points.

In addition to her win in the high jump and running the 4x100 with Biswal, Chinelo Asanya and Jaleigh Pier, Turner was second in the 400, second in the long jump, and third in the 200. Scarf was third in the triple jump, third in the discus and had fourth place finishes in the javelin, 100 hurdles and shot put.

Senior Cassia Hameline won the steeplechase in her first ever attempt at the event, pulling away over the course of the final lap to win in 11:11.93, Molly Lennon won the 400 hurdles in 1:05.64, Lisa Grohn won the 5000 in 18:15.44 and Meghann Wood won the shot put with a 12.53 meter throw for the other Saint individual titles. Biswal's winning marks were 5.41 in the long jump, 11.62 in the triple jump and 15.12 in the 100 hurdles.

Jenna Jasinski was second in the javelin, Jessica Tyree was second in the hammer, Asanya was third in the 100 and Hannah Fake added a fourth in the pole vault and was fifth in the 400 hurdles.

The Saints will send individual entries to the Penn Relays next weekend.
