Williamstown, MA - A 16-0 run in the waning moments of the fourth quarter turned a one-point deficit into a double-digit win for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team as the Golden Knights picked up a 61-49 victory over Bates College at the Williams College Tournament Friday evening.

The Golden Knights moved to 5-1, their best start since the 2002-03 season, and will face tournament host Williams College on Saturday afternoon. Bates fell to 0-5.

The Bobcats enjoyed a brief lead (3-2) in the first moments of the opening quarter, but that 10-minute stretch was all Clarkson. The Golden Knights led just 6-5 at the 7:36 mark, but the final seven minutes saw Clarkson go on a 16-0 run. The Knights tacked on another basket at the start of the second quarter to extend the lead to 19 points. The Bobcats slowly chipped away at the lead and a 7-0 run in the final minutes of the half pulled Bates back within single digits.

Bates continued to slowly climb back within striking distance, tying the game at 35-35 late in the third quarter and then finally regained the lead for the first time since their opening possession at the 4:28 mark of the fourth quarter. The free throw gave the Bobcats a 46-45 lead, but the Knights changed the face of the contest with a 16-0 run over the course of four minutes, going 5-for-6 from the floor while holding the Bates offense scoreless on eight shots and three turnovers. A last second 3-pointer was the only basket the Bobcats would score in the final 4:20.

Clarkson struggled from long range, going scoreless from beyond the 3-point arc (0-for-13), but shot nearly 50 percent from inside the line (23-for-49). Ashley Loggins led the team with 13 points, while Madison Shea scored 12 points (shooting 5-for-9 from the field) with six boards and a pair of steals. Stephanie Grobe added nine points, seven rebounds and four assists and Devin Sorell also chipped in nine points. Alyssia Marsal contributed six points, nine rebounds and two assists and Colleen Daley added eight points and three blocks for the Knights. For Bates, Nina Davenport scored a game-high 15 points, but shot only 5-for-19 from the floor. Allie Coppola had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds and Chelsea Nelson also had 10 rebounds and three steals.
