Strong defense leads Roos women’s basketball past Cobleskill, 64-37

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's basketball team held visiting SUNY Cobleskill to 23 percent shooting and three players scored in double figures as the Roos earned a 64-37 victory on Saturday afternoon in the Roos House.

Caselynn Fulton (Saint Cloud, MN) led the hosts with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) added 14 points and 13 rebounds as she had a double-double in the first half. Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) nearly posted her first collegiate double-double with nine points and 16 rebounds. Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) also had a strong outing posting 11 points and a game-high five assists.

SUNY Canton got off to a quick start scoring 12 of the first 14 points of the contest including two treys from Sayer. The Roos led by as many as 19 points in the opening stanza and took a 33-16 lead into intermission.

Fulton scored the first three baskets out of halftime and SUNY Canton never let the lead get any closer than 18 the remainder of the way and extended its advantage to as many as 30 en route to the 64-37 victory.

The Roos (1-9) had the edge in rebounds (52-39), points in the paint (30-16), second chance points (25-12), bench points (10-3) and fast break points (8-0). Shelby Preston paced the Tigers (1-5) with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Annette Hogan added 10 points.

The women's basketball team is back in action on Sunday when it travels to Aurora, NY for a 2 PM match-up with Wells College.
