Potsdam, NY – A pair of first half goals led the Hobart College Statesmen by the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team 3-0 on a cold afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights fall to 3-11 (1-6 Liberty League) and wrap up their schedule when they host rival St. Lawrence next Saturday at 1:00 pm at Hantz Turf Field. The Statesmen improve to 9-7-1 (2-4-1 Liberty League) and end their season against RIT next Saturday.

After a back-and-forth first few minutes, Hobart was able to get behind the Clarkson backline. Kyle Wiatrowski took the ball up the middle and passed left to Tyler Terens, who kicked a hard ground ball to the far right corner of the goal by a diving Knight goalkeeper Michael King (Verona, NJ) to put the Statesmen up 1-0.

Tempo was controlled by the Golden Knights following the goal, and although they did not have many shots on goal, the Green and Gold found themselves playing on the attacking end for much of the first half. One of the best chances of the half came when Zachary Godin (Philadelphia, NY) took a corner kick and found Trevor Blackwell (Pittsford, NY) who took a shot that went wide of the net.

Late in the period Hobart struck again, as Charlie Kelly took a pass from Joe Busuttil in the middle of the field and fired a line drive by a diving King to put the Statesmen up 2-0 going into halftime.

Early in the second half Hobart had another chance to add to the lead, but King came out and broke up a one-on-one bid to keep the game 2-0. The Statesmen upped the pressure and King made three of his four saves in the second half. Hobart would strike again in the 56th minute to reach the final score of 3-0.

Although they did not attempt many shots, the Golden Knights controlled possession for most of the final 20 minutes of play, including attempting three corner kicks down the stretch. Despite being outshot 16-8 on the afternoon, Clarkson held a 6-4 edge in corners.
