St. Lawrence Football opens preseason camp

The St. Lawrence University Football team looks to build on the success of the past two seasons and move forward to earn a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Saints have rattled off two successful seasons with a 7-3 mark in 2013 and an 8-2 mark last year.

It is not just the St. Lawrence players and coaching staff that has high expectations for the 2015 season. The college football prognosticators have also taken notice. Lindy's Sports Magazine listed the Saints as the No. 15 team in the country at the Division III level in its annual preview edition over the Summer and two players – senior defensive back/wide receiver Leondre Simmon and junior defensive tackle Chyron Brown-Wallace have each earned multiple preseason All-America nods.

On paper, the Saints look great with nine starters returning on offense and another nine on defense. The Saints defense was ranked No. 1 in the country last year in pass defense allowing just 114.5 passing yards per game and was also No. 1 in pass efficiency defense with opposing quarterbacks achieving just a 76.78 combined rating for the year. The team allowed just 13 points per contest and was second in the country with a +2.3 turnover margin per game.

The annual Red-White Scrimmage takes place Friday, August 21 at 1 pm and the team will scrimmage at Ithaca College August 29 in the final tune-up before the season opener September 4 at SUNY Morrisville.
