Junior midfielder Ryan St. Croix tied the game with 1:05 left in the fourth quarter and then scored 47 seconds into overtime to lift the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team to an 8-7 victory over Geneseo State Wednesday evening in Tampa, FL.

The Golden Knights broke out of a three-game losing streak with the win and will look to even their record later this week when they take on Salve Regina University.

Geneseo looked on track for a big offensive day in the first quarter, scoring three times in less than 10 minutes to take a quick lead, but the Golden Knights made sure that any momentum would end after the third score when Ryan St. Croix scored from Sam Groves just nine seconds after the faceoff. That was enough to spark Clarkson into its own run, aided by numerous Geneseo penalties that allowed Clarkson to score three consecutive man-up goals. Ryan DaRin scored unassisted at 2:54 of the first, St. Croix scored from DaRin at the 14:33 mark of the second quarter, and DaRin added another extra attacker goal at 13:11. Seven minutes later DaRin scored even to give Clarkson a 5-3 advantage, but Geneseo pulled back within one before the end of the half when Ryan Kelly scored a man-up goal with 4:27 remaining.

That Geneseo streak of more than 15 minutes without a goal would seem short compared to the next for the Knights. Geneseo went without a goal for the next 24:37 before finding the back of the net again at the 9:50 mark of the fourth quarter. However, Clarkson couldn't take advantage as both teams played tough defense, with the Golden Knights scoring just once in the third quarter. Geneseo's goal at 9:50 in the fourth brought the Knights within one and started a modest run of three straight, making the score 7-6, with the go-ahead goal coming with 2:38 remaining. Clarkson's St. Croix wouldn't allow the Golden Knights to go quietly, however, as he knotted the game up for the third time with an unassisted marker with 1:05 remaining. The junior came through again in overtime, scoring 47 seconds into the extra session to give Clarkson the win.

Both St. Croix and DaRin had five points on four goals and an assist while Groves produced a pair of assists. Nicholas Lentz put forth a strong effort on faceoffs, winning 14 of his 19 tries and scooping up five groundballs. Marc Simmons and Keith Mierzwa also tacked on three groundballs for Clarkson. In the Clarkson crease, Nick Strandholm denied eight of the 15 shots on the cage.

For Geneseo, Joe Chiara and Ryan Kelly each scored a pair of goals, while Tim Wright added two points on a goal and an assist. Michael Yehl kept the Knights close, making 16 saves and allowing eight goals.
