(Pittsburgh, Pa.)- Senior Josh Soffer pitched six strong innings and juniors Gerardo Torres (Stafford, Va.) and Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) each had two hits as the Roos dropped two games to Point Park 4-1 and 12-2 in Pittsburgh.
Soffer had one strikeout and allowed just one walk and seven hits over six innings in the first game.
The Roos manufactured a run in the third inning of game one after sophomore Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, N.Y.) drew a one-out walk. Freshman Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) came in to pinch run for Hunneyman and quickly advanced to third base after a double to right-center field by Darling. Junior Keith Harley (Carthage, N.Y.) then grounded out to second scoring Jones from third.
Freshmen Jared Marckese (Lecanton, Fla.) and Dylan Casselman (Brockville, Ontario) each contributed a single in the first game.
In the second contest the Roos (1-15) scored one run in the fifth and one more in the seventh. In the fifth, junior Michael Zelyez (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) reached base after a Point Park error and then scored off an RBI-double by freshman Josh Jones (Brockville, Ontario). In the seventh, Zelyez ripped a two-out double and then scored off an RBI-single by Torres for his second run of the afternoon.
Sophomore Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, Ontario) had a pair of sigles for the Roos and freshman James Amelotte (Cornwall, Ontario) had one strikeout and gave up six hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Javier Marticorena generated three hits, two RBIs and a triple for both game to lead the Pioneers and Rob Novia added a solo home run in game two
The two teams square off again on Saturday starting at 12 p.m.
