ELMIRA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-7) fell to Elmira College (3-3) 62-47 on the road in their final game of the semester. Senior captain Colleen McNamara (Guelph, Ontario/Our Lady of Lourdes) scored a career-high 15 points and junior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) matched a career-high with 10 points. Danielle Cleary had a contest-best 22 points for the Soaring Eagles and Alex Balara contributed 14 points.

Elmira took the lead early and never relinquished it. A Balara jumper gave the Eagles a 14-5 lead at the 12:15 mark, but LaVoie answered with a 3-pointer to ignite a 7-0 Potsdam run. McNamara sank a jumper four minutes later to close the gap to 14-12. However, the Soaring Eagles pulled away and finished the half on a 12-4 run. They led 26-16 at the break.

The Bears shot nearly 40 percent from the floor in the second half, but despite poor shooting overall, Elmira hit 63 percent of its threes and continued to pull away. Two free throws from Cleary gave the Eagles their biggest lead of the contest at 57-36. Potsdam closed the contest on an 11-5 run, but ran out of time.

Senior captain Carli Reynolds (Indian Lake, N.Y./Indian Lake) scored nine points and fellow captain Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) just missed a double-double with eight points and eight boards.

Karli Pochkar recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Kelsey Geisler finished with 10 points and six boards.

The Bears are now off until they travel to Buffalo State on Jan. 9, to resume their SUNYAC schedule.
