St. Lawrence University sophomore Rylee Smith scored a goal and assisted on another, while rookie goaltender Carmen MacDonald made 29 saves as the Saints opened 2012 in style with a 2-1 victory over nationally-ranked No. 4 Boston College in Boston, MA.

St. Lawrence improves to 9-7-3 having defeated a ranked foe for the first time in the 2011-12 campaign, while the Eagles fall to 13-6-1.  Senior captain Karell Emard assisted on both goals for St. Lawrence, while first-year student Amanda Boulier netted the game-winner.

"We delivered two huge penalty kills at the end of the game as special teams continued to play a big part for us," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells.  "Overall it was a great effort from our team and is a great way to start 2012 by beating one of the premier teams in the country."

All of the game's scoring came in the first period, as St. Lawrence took a 1-0 lead at 4:40.  Smith scored her eighth goal of the year with the lone assist going to Emard, as the Hagersville, ON native beat Boston College goalie Corinne Boyles for the early lead. 

Though the Eagles tied the game 1-1 only 52 seconds later on a power play goal by Emily Field, the Scarlet and Brown came out of the first period with a 2-1 lead thanks to Boulier.  With her team on a power play in the final minute of the stanza, Boulier beat Boyles for her second collegiate goal, with assists going to Emard and Smith at 19:06.

The remaining two periods belonged to the goaltenders, as MacDonald and Boyles kept the opposing offenses off the scoreboard.  MacDonald's third period performance solidified the win for the visitors, as the Saints were outshot 12-2 and took two penalties in the final 5:00 minutes, but managed to keep the Eagles scoreless.

St. Lawrence, winners of three in a row, will look to upset nationally-ranked No. 7 Northeastern University tomorrow, Friday, January 6 at 3:00pm.
