Smith leads impressive Saints men's xcountry performance at Plattsburgh

Former Liberty University runner Josh McDougal, a 14 time All America and former Division I cross country champion was the individual overall winner, running 15:04.2, but he was chased by a large pack of Saints as St. Lawrence University's men's cross country team joined the Saint women in posting a perfect team score at the 2014 Plattsburgh Cardinal Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Joe Smith led a parade of Saints across the finish line as SLU finished with a perfect 15 points with RPI second at 68, Clarkson third at 84 and Plattsburgh fourth at 86.

Smith ran 15:46.0 and the Saint scorers finished in a span of 5.3 seconds for the impressive opening meet victory. Spencer Patterson was third in 15:46.3 with Dennis Korir fourth in 15:47.9, Thomas Caulfield fifth in 15:49.3, and Scott Smolensky sixth in 15:51.3.

Trevor Bibb was the Saints' sixth finisher, seventh overall in 15:52 with Wesley Kirui eighth in 16:02; Evan Page ninth in 16:03.2 and Ben Fishbein 10th in 16:03.2.

Zane Belden was 16th in 16:34.4, Andrew Jarombek 20th in 16:38.4, Jack Martin 24th in 16:49.2 and Caleb Kessler 26th in 16:53.8.

Other Saint finishers included Evan Garvey in 30th, Devon Calvin in 42nd, Dan Driscoll 50th, Ellis Toll 54th, Alec McCrory 62nd, Joshua Ringer 67th, Tyler Baldino 68th and Fletcher Starnes 71st.

SLU will run at the Saratoga Invitational next weekend.
