St. Lawrence University junior John Johnston set a facility record and met NCAA Provisional qualifying standards in winning the 10,000 meter run at the Oneonta May Meet on Saturday evening.
Johnston ran 30:46.31 to win the race. He was 36 seconds off NCAA automatic qualifying which is set at 30:10.00. Senior Chris Funch also met NCAA provisional qualifying standards, finishing second in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 9:21.85. The times for both Johnston and Funch are their best of the year. Johnston's team ranks 22nd nationally in Division III while Funch has the 35th best time in the steeplechase.
Junior Jarell Roberts also competed in the Oneonta meet, finishing third in the 100 in 11.07 and third in the 200 in 22.19. Andy Fisher was fifth in the 100 at 11.35 and seventh in the 200 at 22.88. The two sprinters joined Adrian Wilson and Jon Mellinger and ran 43.66 in the 4x100 relay, winning that event.
The Saints will compete in the ECAC Championships at Moravian College on Thursday and Friday.
