St. Lawrence University first-year alpine skier Loudon Fruth had his best collegiate finish to date on Saturday in the slalom at the 2012 UVM Carnival in Stowe, VT, leading the men's squad to eighth place overall in the team standings.

Fruth raced in a combined time of 1:51.53 to take 19th overall, his first collegiate top-20 showing. The Huntsville, UT native was joined in the scoring by senior Matt Dodge in 22nd and fellow rookie Graham Scott in 29th. The trio combined for 56.0 points to take eighth position.

Sophomore Dustin Martin (32nd) and seniors Scott Houser (34th) and Jeremy Lawless (DQ) rounded out St. Lawrence's line-up in the men's slalom.

On the women's side, the Saints finished in 11th place, as three top skiers did not finish including junior Ashley-Kate Durham, who was in the top-15 after her first run. Due to the struggles of Durham, senior Mackenzie Irwin and sophomore Caroline Barry, the team turned to a trio of first-year students who did the scoring in the women's slalom.

Maria Hillenbrand led the Scarlet and Brown in 33rd place, as the Steamboat Springs, CO native was joined in the scoring by classmates Hannah Kadah (35th) and Allison Visconti (40th).

Williams College won the women's slalom, led by individual champion Geordie Lonza. On the men's side, the Wildcats of UNH won the men's team title, while Middlebury's Hig Roberts took the individual crown.

The St. Lawrence men's and women's alpine ski teams will compete again next weekend, Friday and Saturday, February 10 and 11, at the 2012 Dartmouth Carnival.
