SLU's Flanagan earns league, national recognition

St. Lawrence University junior hockey captain Kyle Flanagan has been named ECAC Player of the Week and was selected as one of 22 Division I student athletes nationally from the sports of football, basketball, wrestling and hockey as a College Sports 360 Primetime Performer.

Flanagan earned MVP honors at the Ledyard Bank Classic at Dartmouth as he scored three goals and assisted on three others as St. Lawrence won the tournament without actually winning a game. He had a goal and assisted on three others as the Saints tied seventh-ranked Merrimack 6-6 in game one of the tournament, advancing to the championship game in a nine-round shootout. Flanagan scored both goals as the Saints tied Dartmouth 2-2 in the title game, winning the shootout 3-2 to become the first team to win a tournament with back-to-back ties since the inception of the shootout in the 2007-08 season.

The Saint junior made his return to action after missing eight games due to injury and established a career high for points in a weekend series. He leads the Saints in scoring and is averaging 1.73 points per game which leads the nation, although he has not played in the minimum number of games to appear in the rankings due to the games missed while injured.
