The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team earned a weekend sweep on Saturday behind a 67-58 victory over Skidmore College in the Burkman Gymnasium in Canton, NY on Saturday. Junior captain Katie Edgerton had a game-high 21 points, while Logan Frederick led the Thoroughbreds with 13 points and 13 rebounds.

The victory evens the Saints' Liberty League record at 2-2 and pushes the team to 11-3 overall. Meanwhile, Skidmore falls to 7-8 on the year and 3-2 in the conference.

"That was another nice win for us to earn having to overcome some roster situations with Casey Capello out this weekend," said St. Lawrence head coach Dan Roiger. "Katie Murray had a great weekend coming off the bench in a significant role. We didn't play perfect, but we played well enough to win and we're learning about what we need to improve upon to become even better."

The two teams exchanged buckets throughout the first six minutes of the game before the Saints 13-4 run to take a 21-10 lead when Edgerton nailed a three-pointer. Skidmore would chip away and pull to within six at 30-24 with 2:31 left in the half on a three-pointer by Jessie Kavana, but the home team closed the opening period on a 7-0 run to take a 37-24 lead into the locker room. Junior Iris Santoni hit a three-pointer, while sophomore Eric Spera and Edgerton followed with baskets to close out the half.

The Saints shot 38% from the half, while Skidmore struggled with a 10-for-37 (27%) mark from the field. Eleven turnovers also cost the Thoroughbreds in the opening 20:00 minutes, while St. Lawrence only committed six.

The visitors never seemed to grab the momentum in the second half, as the Saints held a double-digit lead throughout the frame until the final minute. With 7:09 left in the game, Murray hit a three-pointer that gave the Scarlet and Brown their largest lead of 19 at 58-39. Though Michela Ottati hit two three pointers down the stretch to close the gap to eight, the large cushion proved to be enough as St. Lawrence celebrated a 67-58 win.

Spera and first-year student Kelly Legg delivered solid performances in the post for St. Lawrence, as the duo combined for 23 points and 16 rebounds. First-year student Hannah Wilson had a game-high six assists and added five points. Frederick's double-double was followed by an 11-point performance by Kavana.

St. Lawrence will play on short rest this week as they will square off with Clarkson University on Tuesday, January 25. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm at the Burkman Gymnasium.
