St. Lawrence University's women's indoor track and field team nearly added to an impressive list of qualifiers for the upcoming NCAA Division III indoor championship with a good run by the Distance Medley Relay team at the Saint "Fast Chance Qualifier at the Newell Field House on Friday, but came up just seconds short of the performance needed to qualify.

The team of Megan Kellogg, Marisa Turner, Ashley Leta and Cassia Hameline ran 12:09.62 in a good race with a team from Cortland, but needed to be about eight seconds faster to make the championship field.

The Saints also came close in the 4x400 relay, with a team of Jaleigh Pier, Molly Lennon, Carly Stine and Turner running 3:59.87 which is just over 4 seconds out of a qualifying spot.

The 800 meters did produce at least one and possibly three national qualifiers depending upon results of other meets this weekend. Rachel Shine of Oneonta ran a field house record 2:11.76 and jumped 19 spots in the national rankings with the fastest time in the nation this year. Kaitlyn Balzano of Cortland also made the top ten with a 2:145.21 clocking while Kiera Wood of Geneseo ran 2:14.68 and is in the top 15 nationally. Women's individual events at the NCAA championship include the top 17 performers and ties.

Divya Biswal ran 9.14 in the 60 hurdles, Turner cleared 1.66 in the high jump, Carly Stein had a 4.88 meter long jump and Meghann Wood threw the shot 12.12 meters in other Friday performances for the Saints. Jessica Tyree threw 14.71 meters in the weight throw.

SLU will send four athletes to the championships with entries in six events. Biswal in currently sixth in the country in the long jump and ninth in the triple jump, Turner is ninth in the 400 meters and 11th in the high jump, Hameline is fourth in the mile and ninth in the 3000 and Megan Kellogg is eighth in the 3000.
