CANTON - Four Saints were double-winners as the St. Lawrence University women's tennis team topped Hamilton, 6-3, in a dual match on Tuesday evening in the Newell Field House.

Sophomore Elkie Vandenbeemt and rookie Morgan McNeal earned a victory at No. 1 doubles as they defeated Mira Khanna and Alex Arenson, 8-1. At No. 2 doubles, senior captain Shannon Murphy and sophomore Anna Young topped Liz Detwiler and Bella Schoning, 8-3.

Sophomore Samantha Miller and first-year student Suzanne Weinstein dropped a tight 8-6 match at No. 3 against Melissa Mann and Meg Lee.

In singles action, Vandenbeemt defeated Khanna 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, while McNeal won at No. 2, 6-3, 6-0 against Arenson. Murphy and Young rounded out the Saints' scoring as they joined Vandenbeemt and McNeal as double-winners.

Murphy topped Detwiler 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4, and Young edged Aislinn Shea at No. 5 7-6 (5), 7-6 (1).

St. Lawrence, which improved to 1-0 with today's win, will be back in action on Sep. 22 and 23 at the ITA Championships in Geneva.
