ITHACA -- The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team was edged by Ithaca College Saturday in a dual match in Glazer Arena on Saturday.

The Bombers, who qualified for NCAAs with an Empire 8 Championship title in the fall, improved to 12-1.

Meanwhile, the Saints move to 1-1 on the season. St. Lawrence claimed singles victories at three, four and five, and also earned a point at second doubles. Captain Shannon Murphy won twice on the day to lead the Saints, who had two of their losses go to three sets.

Murphy teamed up with Elkie Vandenbeemt at second doubles to earn an 8-6 victory over Marni Blumenthal and Laurel Salladay, then followed that up with a win over Allison Vizgaitis at five (7-5, 6-2).

Also earning singles victories for the Saints were Olivia Arroyo and Elizabeth Geer. Arroyo defeated Carly Siegel at three by the scores of 7-6 (3), 6-1.

Geer, who rejoined the Saints for the spring season after spending the fall semester abroad, topped Salladay at four by the scores of 6-2, 6-1. Morgan McNeal and Laura Goldhar brought their opponents to three sets but would ultimately fall to their Ithaca opponents.

Allison Young edged McNeal at two (7-5, 4-6, 6-4), while Alyssa Steinweis battled back from a set down at six (5-7, 6-1, 6-3).

The Saints will host New Paltz on March 8th before heading down to Orlando, FL for several dual matches over spring break.
