The St. Lawrence University women's alpine ski team earned its second straight podium finish in the giant slalom on Friday at the 2011 Colby Carnival at Sugarloaf. The Saints were third in the GS with 86.0 points, six ahead of Middlebury, with sophomore Ashley-Kate Durham leading the way with her seventh career top-10 showing.

Durham finished in seventh place in the women's event with a time of 2:11.77. Sophomore Ann West landed her second-best collegiate finish, landing in 15th position overall while rookie Caroline Barry earned her first career top-20 in 19th place. The trio combined for 86.0 points, good for third overall behind only UVM (141.0) and Dartmouth (102.0).

Senior Kelly Skinner was 25th overall in the event, while juniors Elena Rogers (DNF 2nd) and Mackenzie Irwin (DNS 2nd) also represented St. Lawrence on Friday.

In the men's GS, St. Lawrence finished in seventh place despite being without junior Jeremy Lawless and rookie Ben DeFlavio. First-year student Dustin Martin was the top Saint finisher in 17th position overall in 2:09.50, while junior Scott Houser was one spot back in 18th place. Senior Thatcher Jacques rounded out the scoring at 65.0 points in 24th place.

First-year student Nick Scalia (34th) and junior Matt Dodge (DNS 2nd) also raced for the Scarlet and Brown in the men's GS.

Vermont won the women's race with 141.0 points thanks to an individual victory by Kate Ryley in 2:08.05. The Catamounts also claimed victory on the men's side with 132.0 points, as Robby Kelley led the way for UVM with a combined time of 2:03.03.

Both the St. Lawrence men's and women's alpine teams will be in action again tomorrow, Saturday, January 22nd, when they compete in the slalom at the Colby Carnival.
