The St. Lawrence University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on the first day of Liberty League action on Friday, falling to RIT and Vassar at Clark Gymnasium in Rochester. The Saints dropped a 3-0 decision to host RIT and fell by a 3-1 score to Vassar.

Against RIT (7-3 overall, 1-0 Liberty League), the Saints (4-6, 0-2) lost by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 27-25 and against the Brewers (5-6, 1-0) the Saints fell by scores of 25-17, 15-25, 25-23 and 25-15.

"We did not play Saints volleyball today," said head coach Shelly Roiger. "We were very sloppy and hesitant with our manner of play. The Liberty League has a great deal of parity and we have to bring our 'A' game each and every match in order to walk out with a win. We did not do that today. We will regroup and we will be better tomorrow."

The highlight of the afternoon was Amanda Teppo recording the first double-digit blocks match for St. Lawrence since 2009 when she recorded 10 blocks in the Vassar match. The last St. Lawrence player to have a double-digit effort was Jordyn Buzza '11 with 12 blocks against MIT in 2009.

Masha Kolesnikova led the Saints with seven kills in the RIT match and added nine kills and eight digs against Vassar. Katie Kull had a combined 40 assists in the two matches and added eight kills and 10 digs against Vassar. Ally Good led the defense with 10 digs in each match while Grace Kelly recorded six kills and three blocks against Vassar. Maddy Ruehl had seven kills and three aces in the Vassar match as well.

The Saints continue Liberty League play Saturday with a noon match against Clarkson and a 2 p.m. match against Bard.
