SLU swimming and diving splits with RIT

CANTON -- The St. Lawrence University swimming and diving team earned a split with visiting RIT on Saturday afternoon during Homecoming Weekend.

The women's team handily defeated the Tigers 140-99, while the men's team fell by the score of 167-75. The Saints will be back in action at the Liberty League Championships on December 2 and 3, hosted by Rensselaer.

Women: 140-99

Sophomore Katharina Weidhausser and first-year student Samantha Moffitt led the way for the Saints, posting two individual victories each and swimming on the winning 200 medley relay team. Also earning top times were sophomore Elizabeth Canne, junior Casey Abribat and senior Molly Lunn.

Weidhausser won the 200-free (2:02.72) and the 500-free (5:37.20), while Moffitt took the 50-free (25.75) and the 100-free (56.06).

Canne took the 200-breast in 2:37.25, with first-year Courtney Goodrich placing

second with a time of 2:48.13.

Abribat won the 200-IM in 2:19.68, while senior Brynn Hagen and Goodrich rounded out the top three in the event. Abribat just missed the top spot in the 200-back as she touched in 2:18.82. RIT's Colleen Manning won the event with a time of 2:18.81.

Lunn earned a victory in the 1,000-free as she tapped in at 11:30.30, ahead of RIT's Caitlin Foster who finished in 11:30.35.

The relay team of Hagen, Canne, Weidhausser and Moffitt posted a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.89.

Men: 167-75

Senior co-captain Russ Newton led the men's team with three individual victories.

The East Lyme, CT native won the 500-free (5:05.96), 1,000-free (10:23.96) and the 200-IM (2:08.95). First-year student Kirby Kaylor placed second in the 200-IM with a time of 2:09.83.

Andrew Hayes, also a senior co-captain, earned a first-place finish in the 200-back (2:05.86), and a narrow second-place finish in the 200-free (1:50.85). RIT's Kevin Christiansen took first in the 200-free with a time of 1:50.15.
