Cade Gleekel and Bo Hanson notched a pair of goals in the third period, but the St. Lawrence men's hockey team fell to No. 5/6 Quinnipiac, 7-2, at People's United Center in Hamden, Connecticut on Friday night.

Quinnipiac built a 3-0 lead through the first 20 minutes with the help of three power play goals, as the Bobcats finished 3-for-6 with the man advantage. They were led by Wyatt Bongiovanni, who scored a natural hat trick to push the home team's lead to 5-0 before Gleekel put the Saints on the board at 10:51 of the third period with a man-advantage tally of his own.

Gleekel's goal was his seventh of the season, tying him David Jankowski for the team lead. Hanson and fellow sophomore defensemen Philip Alftberg finished with two points apiece on the night for St. Lawrence, as Alftberg picked up assists on both goals.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 4-25-2 on the year and 2-15-2 against ECAC Hockey teams. The Bobcats improve to 23-6-2 and 12-5-2 in conference play.

Quinnipiac's leading scorer, Chase Priskie, opened the scoring at 9:22 of the first period with a wrister from the left circle that beat St. Lawrence starter Emil Zetterquist glove side for a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats added two in a span of 33 seconds later in the frame from William Fallstrom and Bongiovanni's first of the night at 17:17 and 17:50, respectively to push the margin to 3-0.

At 3:05 of the middle frame, Bongiovanni redirected a feed from Luke Shiplo at the edge of the blue paint for Quinnipiac's fourth goal of the night, which sent Zetterquist to the bench as he was relieved by senior Arthur Brey.

Zetterquist finished with 15 saves.

Bongiovanni completed his hat trick at 14:58 of the second period right as a penalty to the Saints' Dylan Woolf expired and before St. Lawrence was able to get a fifth skater back into the play.

The Saints' penalty kill unit got pinned in the Quinnipiac zone for a long shift and the Bobcats were able to capitalize with a cross-crease pass for a tap in back door. Brey got across and got a piece of his glove on it, but was unable to keep it out of the net.

St. Lawrence was given a five-minute power play at 7:47 of the third period when Quinnipiac's Brogan Rafferty was given the gate for contact to the head after a hit on Jake Stevens as he entered the Quinnipiac zone.

Gleekel was able to cash in 3:04 into the man advantage to make it 5-1 when he redirected a shot by Hanson in the high slot and beat Quinnipiac's Keith Petruzzelli, who came in for the third period in relief of starter Andrew Shortridge.

St. Lawrence went 1-for-6 on the power play on Friday.

Just seconds after the major penalty expired, Quinnipiac converted on a break into the Saints' zone to regain their five-goal lead at 6-1 at 12:55, and Scott Davidson scored the seventh Bobcat goal at 15:43 off a partial breakaway.

With 1:20 to play in the final frame, Hanson put a shot from the point through traffic and behind Petruzzelli for his third of the season with Alftberg and Keenan Suthers assisting to the final 7-2 margin.

Quinnipiac outshot the Saints 45-14 on Friday night. Brey finished with 23 saves in 36:55 minutes played, while Shortridge stopped all nine shots he had faced through the first 40 minutes for Quinnipiac. Petruzzelli made three saves in the final 20.

The Saints will play their final regular season road game on Saturday night at Princeton in Princeton, New Jersey.
