Saratoga Springs, NY - Seniors Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) and Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) had a nice prelude to their final home games for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team this weekend, but the Golden Knights came up short on Tuesday falling 61-42 to Skidmore College.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 7-13 overall on the season and 2-10 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore edged up to 13-7 overall and 6-5. With the defeat, Clarkson was officially eliminated from the Liberty League chase as one of the top four seeds in the nine-team conference.

Limited to just seven turnovers and shooting 40 percent, the Golden Knights were in good position after the first half, trailing by only six points at the break. However, Skidmore committed just two errors overall and was able to survive a tough shooting half, which saw the Thoroughbreds sink only eight of their 29 shots from the field. The key for Skidmore in the first half was that of its eight field goals, six were 3-pointers, keeping the Knights at a fair distance until late in the half, when Turner hit a 3-pointer in the final minute to get Clarkson back within six at intermission.

That 3-pointer from Turner could have been a momentum shifter to begin the second period, but Skidmore scored the first 13 points of the half in five minutes and pushed the margin to 19 points. The Knights were able to get back to within as few as 12 points in the final five minutes, but another dry spell down the stretch doomed any hopes of Clarkson completing the come back as Brooke Butkovsky (Monroe, CT) hit Clarkson's only field goal in the final 4:45 with three seconds remaining in the contest.

Carey Turner finished with 15 points and Chrissy Scanlon had 14 points to lead Clarkson. Butkovsky grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for the Knights. Three players finished in double figures for Skidmore, led by Christina Gargiso's 11 tallies.
