The Liberty League announced its annual award winners and All-Conference student-athletes for men's lacrosse on Tuesday, and St. Lawrence University had six players earn recognition. Head coach Mike Mahoney and his staff was also given the honor of Coaching Staff of the Year.

Mahoney was named the Liberty League Coach of the Year in 2009 as well. His team rebounded from an 0-6 conference record last spring to a 12-2 overall mark and the No. 19 spot in the national rankings in 2012.

"While it is certainly nice to see our player's hard work recognized by the league's coaches, our team has had success this year by their unselfish and ‘team first' approach," said Coach Mahoney. "Most importantly we are excited about the opportunity to be play in May and look forward to competing in the Liberty League playoffs which should prove to be as tough a tournament as any in the country."

Juniors Dave Hovey and Jake Wynn were named to the league's first team at attack and long-stick, respectively. Hovey is the team's leading scorer with 43 points on 15 goals and 28 assists this season and is an All-Conference recipient for the first time. Wynn, an Honorable Mention selection last spring, leads the league in caused turnovers this season and has helped anchor the Saints' defense.

St. Lawrence landed three players on the conference's second team, including midfielders Pierson Fowler and Matt Pope and defenseman Craig Leach, while junior Cam Scullen was an Honorable Mention selection as a short-stick specialist.

Fowler emerged as an offensive weapon in his sophomore season, piling up 20 goals including three game-winners and eight assists, en route to his first All-Conference selection. Meanwhile, Pope and Leach are both receiving All-Conference honors for the second straight season. Pope continued to shine in the midfield, totaling 23 points (17g, 6a) while Leach has added 24 groundballs and 14 caused turnovers thus far for the team's defense.

Scullen rounded out the Saints' all-league selections thanks to a team-best 58 ground balls as a defensive midfielder. The Hingham, MA has also chipped in eight caused turnovers and a goal this spring.

The 2012 Liberty League Player of the Year is Tyler Russell of RIT, while the Defensive Player of the Year is Union goaltender Sean Aaron. Brendan MacDonald of RIT earned Rookie of the Year honors.

The No. 19 Saints will be in action in the 2012 Liberty League Semifinals on Friday, May 4 in Schenectady, NY against nationally-ranked No. 11 Union College. Game time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
