First-year midfielder Isabel Silvia scored her second collegiate goal to lead the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Vassar in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon in Poughkeepsie, New York.
Silvia led the Saints with one goal, while Kira Murphy added an assist on the play.
In the 23rd minute, Murphy crossed the ball from the right side, which was headed past Brewers' goalkeeper Fiona Walsh by Silvia to give the Saints a 1-0 advantage and ultimately the win.
Vassar looked to even the score, totaling 15 shots and six shots on goal in the second half, but were unable to capitalize for a goal.
"We played the best soccer we've played all season and I was proud of the team for standing their ground, maintaining discipline and illustrating their love of the game," said head coach Sinead McSharry. "We had some really brilliant defending and to maintain a 1-0 lead against such a good team says a lot about our team's determination."
Rebecca Andrews led Vassar with three shots on goal, while Sara Seper and Savannah Cutler each added two.
Saints' goalkeeper Samantha Allen finished with a season-high 12 saves and recorded her seventh shutout of the season, while Walsh made three saves in goal for Vassar.
The Scarlet and Brown maintained stellar defense, as the Brewers held a 25-11 advantage in shots and a 12-4 edge in shots on goal.
With the win, the Saints improved to 8-1-3 on the season and 3-1-2 in conference play, while Vassar fell to 7-5-1 and 3-3-0.
St. Lawrence will return home to face Skidmore for senior day on October 20 at 3 p.m.
