Sophomore Chandler Short scored his first goal of the season on a diving header in the 15th minute to help the Saints to a 1-0 shutout win over Buffalo State on Sandy MacAllaster Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Saints improve to 5-1-2 on the year while Buffalo State drops to 5-2-1. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Roethel earned his sixth shutout of the season with another strong performance for the Scarlet and Brown.
Short, playing in just his second game this season, dove into the six to get his head on a cross from junior outside back Ross Suitor and beat the Bengals goalkeeper William Banahene for the game-winning goal. It is just the third goal the Saints have scored in the first half this season.
St. Lawrence, which was 0-1-2 in its last three games prior to Saturday's match with the Bengals, was able to maintain possession and keep Buffalo State pinned either in the attacking third or near midfield for most of the game. They did not allow a single shot by the Bengals in the first half and limited the visitors to just five shots total; one on goal.
Banahene finished with five saves for the Bengals.
The Saints will wrap up the nonconference portion of their schedule with a midweek match against Plattsburgh State on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m.
