Troy, NY – Suffering from injuries in the first half of the season, junior Devin Sorell looked like her old self on Friday evening, needing only the first 20 minutes to score a season-high in points en route to a game-high of 26 as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team picked up its second Liberty League victory with a 68-47 win over Rensselaer.

The Golden Knights improved to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League, while Rensselaer remained winless in league games at 0-3 and fell to 5-7 on the season overall.

Sorell made her first four shots of the game, which included three 3-pointers, as the Knights jumped out to a 17-9 lead at the 4:29 mark of the first quarter. The Engineers cut that advantage down to just one within three minutes, but a Tricia Loso 3-pointer with 43 seconds remaining gave Clarkson a 20-16 edge at the first break.

At the start of the second quarter, the two teams traded baskets, but Clarkson's second field goal of the quarter began a run that the Engineers could not overcome. While Rensselaer went 0-for-4 from the field with four turnovers in a stretch of four minutes, the Knights added 11 points to their lead and were up 34-21 midway through the quarter. Though Rensselaer would finally break through with a basket, it did not slow down the Knights' pace at all, as Clarkson finished the final eight minutes of the quarter on a 22-5 run.

Sorell made seven of her nine shots from the floor, with four from long-range, for 18 points in the first half, while classmate Madison Shea had a good game just in the first half, scoring 11 points, all of which came in the second quarter, to go along with six assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Sam Krumbhaar scored 11 for the Engineers and LaKissa Martin added in nine points for Rensselaer. The Engineers committed 12 turnovers in the first half, with 10 coming in the second quarter alone.

Though Clarkson's scoring slowed in the third quarter, it was able to keep Rensselaer at a safe distance, as the Engineers were only able to trim the deficit to 14 points at the 5:26 mark. The lead expanded back to a game-high 19 points near the conclusion of the quarter. With the game never in doubt in the fourth quarter the offenses cooled, but that didn't mean there was nothing to watch for as the clock ticked away. Midway through the quarter Madison Shea recorded her 10th rebound of the game, but with Clarkson's offense not really forcing the issue, Shea finished two assists shy of a triple-double.

Overall, Clarkson forced Rensselaer to commit 26 turnovers and the Golden Knights produced 26 points off of those miscues. Sorell finished with a game-high 26 points, while Shea had an impressive line with 15 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and six steals. With her fourth steal of the game, Shea became just the ninth player in Clarkson history to record 150 career steals. Senior Stephanie Grobe also filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a pair of blocks. For Rensselaer, Krumbhaar and Martin each had 13 points. Shaina Iton scored nine points and also produced 15 rebounds and four blocks for the Engineers.
