Saratoga Springs, NY - Sophomore Madison Shea made her first 16 free throws and went 19-for-20 from the line overall to give the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team an 88-78 victory over Skidmore College on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Knights, winners if six straight, improved to 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the Liberty League, while Skidmore dropped to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Clarkson takes on SUNY Canton this Friday as part of a two-game non-conference set before the team embarks on the second half of the conference schedule.

Skidmore opened up the first quarter with an 11-5 lead through the first six-plus minutes and enjoyed a seven-point advantage (18-11) with just 90 seconds to go, but the Knights ended the quarter with a 6-0 run that pulled Clarkson within one at the first break. An Ashley Loggins 3-pointer at the 8:50 mark of the second quarter gave Clarkson the lead, and though the game would be tied a few moments later, the Knights would never trail again. Another Loggins 3-pointer late in the second quarter pushed Clarkson's lead to five at intermission. The Knights took advantage of Skidmore miscues in the first half, scoring eight points off turnovers and also tallying 10 points on second chance opportunities thanks to 12 offensive rebounds.

Though Skidmore would hang close for the first few minutes of the third quarter, a Devin Sorell 3-pointer at the 5:53 mark sparked an 8-0 run in the span of just 78 seconds to give Clarkson its first double-digit lead. Midway through the fourth quarter, Clarkson got a big lift when the Skidmore bench was called for a technical foul as Shea buried both of her free throws and the ensuring possession was capped by another Sorell 3-pointer, adding five points and changing the margin to 13 points. From that point on Clarkson would simply need to make its free throws down the stretch as the Thoroughbreds had to foul to try to get back into the game.

Shea scored a career-high 23 points overall, going 19-for-20 from the free throw line, and added four assists. Shea's 17th attempt from the line was a miss, allowing her to only tie the Clarkson mark for most consecutive free throws made at 24. Ashley Loggins also shot well from the line, going 8-for-9, to help her score a game-high 24 points. Loggins also kicked in 13 rebounds, four assists and five steals, while Sorell finished with 15 points, three boards, two assists and three steals. Colleen Daley came off the bench to score eight points and she also blocked four shots. For Skidmore, Kelly Donnelly scored 20 points and had six rebounds to lead the way. The Thoroughbreds received 36 points from its bench.
