Potsdam, NY – Senior Devin Sorell scored a game-high 27 points in her final game for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, helping the Golden Knights end the season on a positive note with a 66-58 victory over Rensselaer on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 10-15 overall and 5-13 in the Liberty League, while the Engineers dropped to 11-14 and 7-11, one spot out of the league playoff picture.

Although things started a little slow for the Golden Knights, Clarkson finished the first quarter with more points than it scored in the entire first half against Rensselaer in the first meeting of the season back in December 2017. Midway through the first quarter, the Engineers turned a one-point deficit into a six-point lead with a 7-0 run in less than 90 seconds, but Clarkson responded by hitting three 3-pointers in the final minute. Molly Stewart started the barrage with a make with 58 seconds left and Devin Sorell hit another after a steal just 14 seconds later. Following another RPI turnover, Stewart hit another 3-pointer to give Clarkson a 20-17 lead at the end of the first period.

Neither team shot particularly well in the second quarter, as each made only five shots in 17 attempts, with the Knights going scoreless from beyond the 3-point arc in eight tries. After RPI made its first 3-point attempt of the second period, Clarkson went on a 9-0 run. On two occasions, the Engineers would reduce the margin to three, but the Knights knocked in free throws in the final minute to push its advantage back to five at intermission.

Devin Sorell led the Knights with 14 points in the first half and Tricia Loso contributed five points and seven rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Most of RPI's points came from two sources, with Elizabeth Eckhardt leading the way with 13 points and Ines Ortea providing a spark off the bench with 10 points in just 11 minutes.

At the start of the third quarter, Clarkson edged out by eight points, but three straight scores on a Madison Shea 3-pointer, an Olivia Marshall make and another Shea basket gave the Knights a 15-point lead (51-36) with 4:26 to go in the quarter. A cold spell then hit Clarkson, which allowed RPI to get back into it over the next few minutes, as the margin was trimmed to six in the next three minutes.

The beginning of the fourth quarter, again Clarkson was able to edge out by double figures. Another 7-0 run, capped off by an Olivia Marshall jumper, put Clarkson up 60-47 with 6:43 to go. RPI cut the margin to half that in the next three minutes and still trailed by six with 2:34 to go. Near the end of a possession with the shot clock winding down, Raeanna Dunn went to the left side for a layup to extend the advantage to eight for Clarkson, and on the next play she was able to pick up an errant pass for an extra possession. That sequence proved important, as Clarkson was able to run 20 more seconds off the clock, and then knocked 20 more seconds off on its next possession before Devin Sorell put the game away with a pair of free throws.

Sorell finished with a game-high 27 and also grabbed six boards. Madison Shea produced a solid all-around effort with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals, and Olivia Marshall chipped in 10 points and nine boards, shooting 5-for-6 from the field. Rensselaer was led by Elizabeth Eckhardt and Ines Ortea, who each scored 18 points. LaKissa Martin also scored 10 points for the Engineers.
