Each of the four seniors on the St. Lawrence women's tennis roster earned multiple wins on Saturday afternoon; senior day for the Saints, as they downed SUNY New Paltz, 9-0 and Bard 8-1 to finish their home schedule this season.
With both wins, the Saints improve to 15-3 overall with three dual matches remaining this season.
Seniors Elkie Vandenbeemt, Anna Young, Samantha Miller and Olivia Arroyo were each dual winners in the team's shutout of New Paltz, accounting for six of the Saints' nine points. Miller and Arroyo teamed for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles, while Vandenbeemt played with Morgan McNeal at No. 1 and Young was paired with Emily Wyman at No. 2.
Five of the six singles matches were won in straight sets, as the Hawks' Jessica Schmidt earned a 7-6(4) win in the second set to force a third. Miller won the super breaker 10-7 to preserve the shutout.
In the second match of the day against Bard, the Saints conceded just one game to the Raptors as Beryl Taylor claimed a game at No. 1 singles against Vandenbeemt, but the Saints' captain went on to win the match 6-1, 6-0.
Bard's win came via retirement in the third singles position, as the Saints Laura Goldhar was forced to retire despite leading 3-0 in the first set.
Hallie Young (No. 2), Bridget Fleming (No. 4), Lia Petersen (No. 5) and Alexandra Bennett (No. 6) all earned victories in singles play for St. Lawrence.
The Saints will play a trio of matches next week, all on the road, against SUNY Geneeso (April 21), Vassar (April 25) and The College of New Jersey (April 26) to close out the regular season.
