Plattsbugh State outscored the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team 52-23 in the second half en route to an 88-59 win in a non-conference match in Plattsburgh, NY on Tuesday night.
The Cardinals, led by Kathleen Payne's game-high 27 points, earned their first victory of the season to improve to 1-2. Meanwhile, the Saints had three players reach double figures, but couldn't overcome Plattsburgh's 58.33 percent shooting from the floor in the second half and fall to 1-2 on the season.
Senior Kelly Legg had a team-high 14 points on 5-8 shooting, but entered foul trouble early in the second half. First-year student Caroline Dalton had 13 points, while junior Kara McDuffee scored 12 points on four 3-pointers. Allie Cady dished out seven assists, collected five rebounds and added nine points.
The two teams battled back and fourth in the first half, with St. Lawrence gaining its largest lead of the game with a three-pointer from McDuffee (36-29) with 2:50 to go in the opening frame. Plattsburgh outscored St. Lawrence 7-3 over to head into the locker room with the score tied 36-36. Plattsburgh then broke away in the second stanza with the help of 58.33 percent shooting while limiting the Saints to just 25.00 percent in the half en route to the 88-59 win.
St. Lawrence will look to even its record against Cortland State on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm in the Burkman Gymnasium.
