Sophomore Hannah Sears came up big at the plate for St. Lawrence on Friday morning, earning three RBI and plating the winning run in both the 6-3 win over Stevenson University and the 4-1 win over Fredonia State. With the sweep the Saints finished their spring training trip in Clermont, Fla. With a 6-5 record.

The fifth inning was key in both victories, as the Saints scored five in the bottom half of the fifth against Stevenson and two in the top of the frame against the Blue Devils.

"This was a great trip for us," Head Coach Elisa Van Kirk said. "I couldn't be prouder of how this team performed. To finish above .500 with such a tough schedule says a lot about our resiliency. We were down in against Stevenson but kept our composure and battled to get back into it."

In game one the Saints jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when Kylee Knight, Brady Cooper and Aisha O'Connor put together back-to-back-to-back singles, the last of which score Knight.

Stevenson scored three in the top of the fifth on three hits and one error and took a 3-1 lead. But the Saints responded in a big way, as they took the lead and never looked back; scoring all five runs with two outs.

Jordan Sheridan led off the inning and reached on an error by the third baseman and advanced to second when Cooper hit a ground ball back to the mound for the second out of the inning.

With Sheridan on third after a passed ball, O'Connor singled to drive her in and Laura Finley followed with a double to push the senior captain to third. Jacqueline Dufour picked up an RBI with a single through the left side and Sears singled to right to drive in the game-winning run in Finley.

First-year Emma Gailey finished off the inning with her own single to right, scoring both Dufour and classmate Kelsey Murphy, who pinch ran for Sears.

Kyle Plimpton picked up the win for St. Lawrence; her fifth of the season, and struck out eight batter in seven innings pitched.

"Kyle's performance on the mound speaks for itself," Van Kirk added. "She came through in the clutch to work out of a few bases-loaded situations today."

Plimpton was also the pitcher of record in game two against Fredonia St. after coming in in relief of Emma Gailey with two outs in the first inning.

Again the Saints jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, this time in the first inning when an error on the third baseman following a sac bunt by O'Connor score Knight. Knight led the Saints with four hits in the contest, while O'Connor finished with three.

With the score tied in the top of the fifth it was Knight who led things off with a single to right center. Cooper followed with a sac bunt to more her over and then O'Connor dropped a bunt for an infield single to put runners on the corners. With two outs, Kelsey Murphy walked to load the bases and Sears stepped up with a bloop single that dropped in behind the bag at first and rolled to the fence for 2 RBI, as O'Connor and Knight both scored on the play.

O'Connor scored again in the top of the seventh for the Saints fourth run.

On the mound, Emma Gailey gave up two hits and struck out one batter in two-thirds of an inning pitched, while Plimpton struck out 10 in the win.
