St. Lawrence University first-year student Graham Scott and sophomore Dustin Martin each earned top-10 finishes, leading the men's alpine ski team to a program-best second place finish in the giant slalom yesterday at the 2012 EISA Championships in Middlebury, VT.

Scott, who was already in the mix for an NCAA Championship bid, clinched a spot thanks to a career-best second place overall finish in the men's GS. The Chelsea, QC native raced in 1:59.13, finishing only behind individual champion Kevin Drury of UVM. He earned 47.0 points for his team in the carnival standings having posted the best individual finish for a St. Lawrence men's alpine skier in over a decade.

Martin followed with a clutch eighth place finish, propelling St. Lawrence into contention for the event. The Stowe, VT native, who raced in 2:00.73, would also punch his ticket to the national championships in two weeks in Bozeman, MT with his showing.

"It was certainly a very special day for our program on Saturday," said St. Lawrence head coach Willi Steinrotter. "To be second as a team against some great talent in the GS at the EISA Championships is a tremendous way to finish the carnival season."

Senior Jeremy Lawless would cap the Saints' scoring at 103.0 points in 21st place, and though the team fell short of the University of Vermont, the total was good enough to top Middlebury for second place.

Seniors Scott Houser (36th) and Matt Dodge (38th) competed for the final time for the Scarlet and Brown, while sophomore Ben DeFlavio rounded out the team's line-up in 42nd.

On the women's side, junior Ashley-Kate Durham, who will also compete in the NCAA Championships again this year, was the top St. Lawrence finisher in ninth place in the GS. The Timmins, ON native raced in 2:07.31 to earn a top-10 showing.

First-year student Allison Visconti put the finishing touches on an excellent rookie year with a 14th place finish on Saturday, while sophomore Caroline Barry capped the team's scoring in 33rd place. The trio combined to put the Scarlet and Brown in seventh position.

Senior Mackenzie Irwin (50th) and first-years Maria Hillenbrand (57th) and Kelly Appenzeller (DQ) also represented St. Lawrence in the women's event.

The University of Vermont won the women's GS, led by individual champion Kate Ryley.

The trio of Durham, Scott and Martin will join Nordic senior Caroline Carpenter at the NCAA Championships, March 7-11 in Bozeman, MT.
