Schenectady, NY – Getting a taste of its own medicine, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team faced an incredibly determined goalkeeper and was unable to score for the final 37-plus minutes in suffering a 12-5 loss on Saturday afternoon at Union College.
The Golden Knights fell to 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League, while Union moved to 4-3 and 1-1.
When Scott Dosser tied the score for the fifth time in the contest with an unassisted goal at the 7:15 mark of the second quarter, it certainly didn't appear as if that would be the final goal of the game for the Golden Knights. Sam Bebout stopped 16 straight shots after the Dosser goal and even when he was relieved for the final 4:33 of the game by Jack Santilli, the Knights were unable to score with two more tries at the Union frame.
Meanwhile, Union scored at a normal rate to turn a tie game into a lopsided affair. Union scored twice in a 63-second span midway through the second quarter and then scored twice in the third, again just 52 seconds apart. In the fourth, the Dutchmen didn't put things away until late, scoring their 10th goal at the 7:32 mark and then tacking on two more goals in the final six minutes.
Ryan DaRin scored twice to lead the Knights, while Shane Kilday, Conor Bartlett and Dosser each added a goal. Ryan St. Croix and Kyle Brown each added an assist for the Knights. Ryan Gabriel scooped up five groundballs while Marc Simmons added four. Mark Uhlig also had four groundballs and caused two turnovers and Justin Gibson also produced two groundballs and two caused turnovers. Nick Strandholm made eight saves for the Knights.
For Union, Jordan Cooper had six points on two goals and four assists and Kerry Lyne had four points with three goals and an assist. Sam Bebout made 21 saves for the Dutchmen.
