Canton, NY – Jade Sayward (Willsboro, NY) netted her seventh goal of the season as 110 minutes of action could not separate the SUNY Canton women's soccer team from visiting SUNY Institute of Technology with the teams playing to a 1-1 tie on Wednesday evening. The Kangaroos move to 7-7-1 on the season, while the Wildcats stand at 4-9-1.

The hosts found the first goal of the game off a set piece. Karley Cree (Hogansburg, NY) took a corner from the right end line finding Sayward in the box who beat Wildcat keeper Margaret Werenczek with a header into the lower right corner. The Roos held a 4-2 shots on goal edge in the opening half to carry the 1-0 lead into intermission.

Visiting SUNYIT showed increased pressure out of break and it resulted in the game-tying goal just three minutes out of halftime. Stephanie Wurz found Kaelyn Francis in the middle of the 18 yard box. Wurz lasered a shot into the left corner of net just out of the reach of Brittany Rotach (Brasher Falls, NY) who dove to her right.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the remainder of regulation as the teams combined for 17 shots in the second half, but the goalkeepers would step up big as Rotach made several crucial saves in the final 20 minutes of the half. The Roos nearly found the game-winner when Sayward connected on a header off a corner kick but a Wildcat defender stopped the shot as she hugged the right post.

SUNYIT controlled the first overtime with five shots, but SUNY Canton responded with all three shot attempts in the second 10 minute extra session. After 110 minutes of play the teams could not be separated as the game resulted in a 1-1 draw.

Rotach had a phenomenal evening in net for the Roos stopping nine shots, the second most saves she has made this season. Werenczek turned aside seven shots for the Wildcats.

The Roos honored their five graduating members prior to the contest: Rebecca Remington (Potsdam, NY), Julia Gilbert (Phoenix, NY), Jade Sayward, Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, NY) and Katlyn Hart (Harrisville, NY).

The women's soccer team is back in action on Friday when it travels to square off with Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at 4:00 p.m.
