Saunts Stine 2nd in NYSCTC Heptathlon, Bell, Marini Star at Cornell

Carly Stine finished second in her first heptathlon competition, compiling 3894 points in the New York State Collegiate Track Conference multi-event championship at RPI Sunday and Monday while Eliza Bell was third in the high jump and Jessica Marini was fifth in the 400 hurdles and ran on the second place 4x400 relay at the Big Red Invitational at Cornell on Sunday.

Stine scored eight points toward the Saint team total in next weekend's NYSCTC Outdoor Championship at Rochester. She had top four finishes in five of the seven events with a win in the 800 to conclude the competition.

Stine earned 589 points with a 17.07 clocking in the 100 hurdles (4th), picked up 610 with a 1.49 meter high jump (4th), 389 points with a 7.84 meter mark in the shot put and 679 points with a 27.41 clocking in the 200 meters (2nd).

In Monday's final three events, she scored 559 points with a 5.00 meter long jump (2nd), added 290 with a 20.06 meter throw in the javelin and picked up 779 points with the event win in 2:23.31 in the 800 meters. She trailed only Ithaca's Amanda Rissmeyer, who won with 4296 points in the 12-athlete competition.

At Cornell, other members of the Saint women's team prepped for the upcoming NYSCTC Outdoor Championships at Rochester with solid performances at the Big Red Invitational.

Bell cleared 1.60 meters to place third in the high jump and also finished 13th in the triple jump for the top individual Saint performance while Marini ran 1;04.70 in the 400 hurdles and led off the 4x400 team which ran 4:14.62. She was joined by Jenna Hulton, Staci Czaja and Cassia Hameline.

Ariel Beccia was ninth in 18;33.94 in the 5000 and Jenna Hulton finished 10th in the 800 with a 2:19.36 clocking for the other Saint top ten performances.

Elizabeth Edwards was 11th in the 1500 in 4:54.38, Hameline finished 12th in the 400 hurdles and Kelsey Leder was 12th in the 5000.

Top field event performances in addition to Bell's high jump included a 12th in the triple jump by Emily Rebehn, and a 13th by Jessica Ingalls with Heather Cutler 14th in the hammer. Jessica Tyree was 13th in the discus and 14th in the shot while Czaja finished 14th in the javelin.
