Canton, NY – Taylor Saltus led all players with a season-high 27 points as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team earned a 71-56 win v. visiting Alfred State College on Senior Day on Saturday in the Roos House.

The Roos (12-13) opened up a 27-19 lead after a Jenifer Morgan-Aubin layup with 3:15 remaining but the Pioneers closed the half on a 10-0 run to take a 29-27 lead into intermission. Antanasia Chambers and Taylor Saltus paced the Roos with nine points each in the opening half, while Kelly Kane had seven for the Pioneers.

The Roos opened up an 11-point lead late in the third quarter as they outscored Alfred State, 20-9, in the third quarter to lead 47-38 after 30 minutes of play.

The Pioneers (9-13) cut the deficit to three with 5:42 remaining in the fourth quarter. Morgan-Aubin converted an old-fashioned three-point play and another bucket, Chambers hit a jumper and Conway added a runner to open up a 12-point lead. Canton hit its free throws down the stretch to secure the 71-56 win.

Saltus led all players with a season-high 27 points including going 5-for-8 from three-point range and 6-for-7 from the charity stripe with six steals and three assists. Chambers added a double-double on 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Morgan-Aubin chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds. Tatiana Laroche hauled down a game-high 13 rebounds.

Canton held a 52-34 edge rebounding and turned 16 offensive rebounds into 14 second chance points. SUNY Canton honored its four seniors Taylor Saltus, Tatiana Laroche, Randi Conway, Allison Fink, and Lexus Iglesias in a pre-game ceremony.

The women's basketball team is back in action next Saturday when it takes on the University of Valley Forge in the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) semifinal. The tournament will be hosted by Pine Manor College.
