Cobleskill, NY – Taylor Saltus nearly recorded a triple-double posting 13 points, nine rebounds and eight assists as the SUNY Canton women's basketball team earned a 78-74 road win at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday.
Trailing 20-19 with just over a minute left in the first quarter the Roos used a 6-0 run to take a 25-20 lead and took a three-point advantage after one. Canton led by as many as six on two occasions in the opening half but took a slim 42-39 lead into intermission.
Antanasia Chambers (13) and Billie Rivenburgh (12) both reached double figures in points in the opening half, while Saltus added nine. Addy Lawson (15) and Stacey Sprague (10) led the first half scoring effort for Cobleskill.
The Fighting Tigers (6-5) led 47-45 in the third quarter but the Roos (4-7) rattled off a 12-0 run that included five points from TYberia Wallace and four points from Allison Fink to open its largest lead of the game at 57-47.
Cobleskill responded with an 8-0 run to get within 63-61 with 5:52 remaining in regulation. The Tigers tied the game at 65 apiece and eventually took a 70-69 lead after a Lawson three-pointer with 3:09 to play.
Jasmine Dixon and Taylor Saltus went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to put the Roos up five with 58 seconds remaining. Cobleskill trimmed the deficit to one with back-to-back baskets and Saltus split a pair of free throws.
Shaliyah Graham missed a potential go-ahead three-pointer with five seconds remaining and Rivenburgh hit two clutch free throws with two seconds remaining for the 78-74 final.
Chambers led the Roos with 18 points, while Rivenburgh added 14 points. Sade Rogers tallied nine points and Fink added eight points. Seven players had at least six points for SUNY Canton.
Lawson finished with a game-high 30 points for Cobleskill, while Gabby Muraczewski tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds. Sprague also chipped in 12 points for the Tigers.
