Senior Beau Yaremko pitched five stellar innings in relief in the second game of a Liberty League doubleheader at Vassar on Saturday afternoon, but the Saints fell 6-4 in the nightcap after suffering a 16-2 loss in game one in a sweep for the Brewers.

Yaremko gave up just two hits and did not allow a run in five innings of work, finishing with four strikeouts.

Oscar Acevedo led the Saint with a pinch-hit two RBI single in game one, while Taylor Digilio went 3-for-5 in the second game with a run scored and an RBI. Evan O'Keeffe and Anthony Butler both finished 2-for-4 at the plate in the nightcap.

Game One –

Vassar outhit the Saints 13-3 in the first game on Saturday, including five doubles, building a 16-0 lead with four runs in the third, four in the fifth, two in the sixth and six in the top of the seventh.

Bryan Rubin went 3-for-3 and had a team-high three RBI for Vassar, while Evan Trausch finished 2-for-4 with a game-high three runs scored.

In the bottom of the seventh, Acevedo pinch hit for Digilio with two outs and two on, as rookies Henry Day and William Montgomery moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Acevedo singled to right to bring both in to score the Saints only runs of the game.

Starter Alex Black went four and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. The Saints used four pitchers in relief, including Will Fellows, first-year Tommy Voce, Robert Gates and Charlie Pacilio.

Game Two –

The Saints and Brewers traded runs in both the first and second innings, heading into the third tied at 3-3. Evan O'Keeffe hit an RBI double to right center in the first to tie the game at 1-1 and then he and Taylor Digilio both had an RBI single in the bottom of the second for St. Lawrence.

In the third, Vassar took a 5-3 lead with the help of two hits and a walk, as the Brewers pushed the first run across with a sacrifice fly to right field before a double to center brought the second to the plate to put Vassar in front for good.

The Saints answered with an RBI double by Anthony Butler in the bottom of the third that drove in Black to cut the deficit to one at 5-4, but Vassar added another in the fourth inning to push to the wining 6-4 margin.

Starter Evan Reichel pitched four innings and allowed six runs on nine hits with a strikeout and two walks before Yaremko took over in the fifth and shut down the Brewers.

Vassar finished with an 11-9 edge in hits, while also making two errors to the Saints' one.
