The St. Lawrence University women's track and field team won the 2013 Rochester Invitational on Saturday afternoon to kick-off the outdoor season at Fauver Stadium. The Saints had solid performances both on the track and in the field events, including wins by Hannah Kinsey, Elizabeth Edwards, Marisa Turner and Samantha Weber.

The Saints finished with 147 points, finishing ahead of Buffalo (137) and Rochester (133) in the 14-team field.

"This was a great way to start our season, as we had excellent performances across the event groups," said St. Lawrence head coach Kate Curran. "It's a solid team win for us, and gets us out of the gate with some early momentum."

Kinsey represented the Scarlet and Brown well in the sprints, winning the 100m dash in 13.19 and taking third in the 200m dash. The pairing of Edwards and rookie Ella Martin was impressive in the 1600m run, with Edwards winning in 4:47.32 and Martin finishing in fourth. Edwards was also on the winning 4x800 relay team, along with Martin, Kelsey Leder and Ariel Beccia, who posted a combined time of 10:04.51.

Other scorers on the track for St. Lawrence included Jessica Marini (2nd) and Carly Stine (5th) in the 400m hurdles and senior Caroline Raue, who was second in the 1500m steeplechase after cutting over a minute off her PR and posting one of the best Division III times in the country (11:02.74).

St. Lawrence picked up 25 big points in the high jump thanks to four scorers, including Turner and Eliza Bell, who finished 1-2 in the event. Turner won with a mark of 1.64, topping her teammate by .05m. Kylie Morris and Sarah Francesconi also scored in the high jump in fourth and seventh, respectively.

Weber earned her victory in the javelin with a mark of 33.53m, while sophomore Jenna Jasinski was third in the same event (30.77m). Junior Taylor Washington earned 6.0 points with a third place finish in the pole vault.

St. Lawrence also had several solid finishes in the throwing events thanks to Kristen Linder and Jessica Tyree. Linder was the runner-up in the shot put with a mark of 11.07m, and came in fifth behind Tyree in the discus (31.67m). Tyree was third in the discus (35.23m) and chipped in a sixth place showing in the hammer (38.02m).

St. Lawrence will return to Rochester, NY next weekend on Saturday, April 13 for the 2013 Roberts Wesleyan Invitational.
