The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team fell to the University of Rochester, 6-3, in Rochester, NY on Saturday afternoon. The Yellowjackets are ranked #12 in the Northeast and improve to 10-4 on the season. Meanwhile, the regionally-ranked #17 Saints fall to 7-5 overall and will take on William Smith tomorrow afternoon in Geneva, NY.
Rochester jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles competition, taking first and third doubles. Cara Genbauffe and Frances Tseng edged Elkie Vandenbeemt and Shannon Murphy in the one spot, 8-6. SLU's Elizabeth Geer and Morgan McNeal knocked off Molly Goodman and Christine Ho at two, 8-6. Rochester's Hayley Brower and Rachel Suresky beat Olivia Arroyo and Sami Miller, 8-2 to give the Yellowjackets a 2-1 lead.
In singles play, Rochester worked to a 4-1 lead, picking up victories at four and one. Ho defeated Geer at four, 6-3, 6-0, and Tseng beat Vandenbeemt at one, 6-3, 6-3.
The Saints cut the Yellowjacket lead to 4-3 with a three-set win from Morgan at two over Suresky, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, and Arroyo's 6-2, 6-1 win over Genbauffe at three. Rochester, however, won the rest of the matches on court en route to the 6-3 victory.
UR's Zhao defeated Laura Goldhar at six, 6-2, 6-2, before Goodman capped the scoring for the home team with a 6-0, 1-6, 7-5 win over Murphy at five.
