The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team earned an 8-1 victory over RIT on Sunday afternoon. The Saints, who improve to 9-5 on the season, celebrated the final home match of the team's two seniors, Elizabeth Geer and Shannon Murphy. Both members of the class of 2013 were double winners to lead the Saints to the win.
St. Lawrence took a 3-0 lead after doubles competition as the third doubles duo of Sami Miller and Olivia Arroyo earned an 8-0 victory over Meg Barnstein and Kelsie Redburn, its second sweep in a row. Geer and Morgan McNeal followed with an 8-4 win over Britt Aman and Kristen Rice at two before Murphy and Elkie Vandenbeemt gutted out a 9-8 (3) victory over Marte Vera Antelo and Liz McGrail at number one.
In singles competition, Laura Goldhar made it 4-0 in favor of the Saints, handily defeating Lindsay Smith 6-0, 6-1 at five, and then Murphy clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Brooke Kaylor at four. Geer followed with a win over Rice at three, 6-3, 6-2, at three.
RIT's Vera Antelo beat Arroyo at two, 6-1, 7-6 (4), but Vandenbeemt and Miller earned the final two wins on court to bring the score to 8-1. Vandenbeemt topped McGrail in the one spot, 6-3, 7-6 (2), and Miller defeated Amin in the six spot 6-3, 7-6 (5).
